Why Every Individual Should Embrace the Power of a Computer
I cannot think of a reasonable reason why an individual should not have a computer. If given the time to contemplate this over a few hours, I would still reach the same conclusion: why isn't everyone equipped with one?
A Bit of History
I bought my first computer in the late 1980s, a period when I also quit smoking. The motivation to quit? I had gummed up two or three stereos and similar music-playing devices with pipe tobacco smoke. I couldn't afford to damage my computer in the same manner since it was my primary tool for earning a living as a writer.
Fast forward through a succession of ever-better personal computers to today: My mainstay computer these days is a desktop that is likely around eight years old. On it, a folder holds files dating back a few more years. Recently, my 'PC guy' advised me that I really really need to do some housecleaning to optimize its performance!
From Historic Investment to Modern Commodity
I have written hundreds of articles for local newspaper groups through the years and continue to produce content for miscellaneous clients. Decades ago, my first computer was expensive, costing 1500 for PC ownership. Today, you can buy a brand-new PC for less than 500.
Perhaps for you, 500 seems like a significant sum to invest in a PC. Only you can determine what you are willing to spend. However, consider this: my initial 1500 investment was recouped within a year, and since then, the money I earned through my computer has sustained me and my family through countless years of living, working, and leisure.
Unlimited Possibilities with a Computer
Imagine the limitless opportunities and the myriad activities you could and will engage in with a computer. As a writer, my thought processes continue to surpass my imagination. Thanks to advancements in technology and software, the possibilities are virtually endless, from creative writing and research to online courses and remote work.
Don't Hesitate: Buy One!
When it comes to choosing between a desktop and a laptop, I fully endorse the desktop over the laptop. The practical advantages of a desktop — larger monitors, better performance, and lower energy consumption — are undeniable. Additionally, desktops are easier to upgrade and maintain compared to laptops.
Conclusion
With the growing reliance on digital tools in our daily lives and professional settings, it is essential to integrate a computer into your life. Whether for work, education, or personal projects, a computer can significantly enhance your capabilities and open up a world of possibilities.
Final Thought: Computers are not just a tool; they are a gateway to countless opportunities. Invest wisely in a desktop to maximize your potential and streamline your daily tasks.
