My Journey Through Video Game Consoles: From G7000 to PS2
Video game consoles have been a part of many families' living room entertainment for decades. For me, the first console that I ever experienced was the Philips Videopac G7000 in 1979 or 1980. This was considered a state-of-the-art video game system at that time. While the exact games from that era are now a bit of a blur, I do recall that it was one of the earliest home consoles to offer color graphics and greater interactivity.
Philips Videopac G7000
Fondly remembered, the Philips Videopac G7000 made its mark in the early days of home video games. Some of the select games that I played on it, though now lost in memory, were part of my childhood nostalgia.
Entertainment has evolved significantly since the 80s. Fast forward to a more familiar era, my first touch and play with a console was the PS3. My dad had it, and I vividly remember a critical event that changed my relationship with gaming. One day, my dad was playing Mixed in Black or possibly Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and he handed me the controller, saying, 'Give it a try.' Without much thought, I pressed buttons at random, and despite encountering title screens on the SNES, I managed to start Mixed in Black.
Games and Controllers
Call of Duty and Mixed in Black were some of the games I associated with my formative gaming years. However, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was a significant game for me, as it convinced my parents to buy the PS3 for me. Nonetheless, my entry into the first actual video game was Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Now, imagine the horror of wasting precious seconds on SNES title screens. By pressing the start button, you could skip the flashing text and graphics, but if you missed the optimum moment or left the controller unattended, the system would lock. The moment of realization was terrifying.
Other Consoles and Games
During my childhood, we had a Sega Genesis and a Nintendo 64 concurrently. These consoles came with classics like Goldeneye on the N64, which left a lasting impression. I also had a PC with Land Before Time games, and later, a Sega Genesis which further enriched my gaming library.
The original Xbox with its visually striking controller was another console I remember. Nostalgia also brings back memories of the Nintendo 64, which I watched others play through games like Goldeneye. The Game Boy Advance SP also played a pivotal role in my gaming experience with the Scooby-Doo series.
The Wii, despite being underpowered, offered a variety of gaming experiences. One of the greatest moments was a Christmas photo showing the joy of gaming on the Wii.
The PS2 Era
Finally, the PS2 was my first entry into the PlayStation line. This console brought me many years of gaming and memories. From Grand Theft Auto to Final Fantasy, the PS2 was an iconic console in many gamers' lives.
My journey through gaming consoles is one filled with nostalgia and technological advancements. Each console brings with it a unique chapter in gaming history, and I remain grateful for the joy they have brought to millions of families and individuals.
